10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects
Spring cleaning is not exciting for a lot of us. But it needs to be done. As the winter end and we start looking forward to spring and warmer weather, something within us encourages us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and purging things we’ve piled up over the winter months.
But who says spring cleaning is limited to the interior of a home?
The outside of your house could likely use a little refreshing after a cold, wet winter, too!
It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning
Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will really improve the appearance of your house in Vista, and, even more important, will provide much-needed maintenance and care that will save you a lot ofmoney over the years ahead.
1. Gutter Cleaning
Spring is the ideal time of year to clean your gutters, because so many of leaves and debris accumulate during the fall and winter months. Pollen is at its highest during spring, making a big mess in your gutters and downspouts if they are not cleaned.
Plus, pests and critters are scavenging for places to build homes during spring, so getting your gutters cleaned will help prevent an infestation in your home.
Gutter cleaning will consist of cleaning the inside and outside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew and rust stains and returning them to a nice appearance.
2. Window Cleaning
Exterior window cleaning is essential for spring cleaning. First floor windows will not cause you much of an issue, but second and third floor windows will be tougher to reach.
Cleaning windows by hand is a tiring chore, and will require a lot of tools, not to mention going up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your home’s windows is the perfect way to get the panes and the outer frame nice and clean.
3. Pressure Washing
You do not want clean gutters and clean windows on a dirty home. That means you are going to want to pressure wash your house too!
Pressure washing is quick, effective and affordable. You can pressure clean your home, outdoor furniture, patios, porches and walkways with not much effort. It will eliminate dirt and mud so they will not permanently stain your house, and you can prevent the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.
4. Driveway Cleaning
Clearing off your home’s driveway and giving it a good cleaning might seem strange because you’ll still be driving on it, but actually, a clean, maintained driveway can increase the curb appeal of your house.
A professional pressure washing company can do wonders for driveway cleaning, whether it’s concrete, asphalt, stone or another material. Also consider adding a gravel or mulch border to your home’s driveway to really make it pop!
5. Patio Cleaning
Your home’s patio gets the most use in the summer months, so it is easy to overlook it during the winter since you are not doing a lot of outdoor entertaining, leisure or grilling. Your patio could be in bad shape the first time you go onto it in spring.
Detergent and water – and a little muscle – can sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if there are signs of mold or algae, you may need to consider a more serious option, like power washing, to guarantee that friends and family can enjoy your patio all summer long.
6. Roof Cleaning
Algae and moss are common roof problems in Vista. While you are cleaning the outside of your house, it’s a great time to pressure clean your home’s roof as well, but you’ll need to use a different process than the one you use for the rest of your home’s exterior cleaning.
If you notice streaks on your home’s roof, algae is most likely the cause. Moss is pretty obvious, too. These particles cannot be wiped off shingles, nor can you pressure wash the roof. Both of these methods will ruin the shingles on your home’s roof.
The ideal course of action for roof cleaning is to spray the shingles with a half-bleach, half-water mixture and then let it sit. This mixture will kill any organic organisms on your home’s roof without reducing its lifespan.
7. Tidy up the Front
The front of your house is what most people passing by see, so make the best impression possible for visitors, neighbors and for yourself! Coming home to a well-maintained exterior will instantly improve your day, and will inspire you to spend a lot more time outdoors.
You can clean your front porch with detergent and water or a good pressure wash. Clean cobwebs and mud off of the front porch, and consider painting it for a fresh look! Clean overlooked areas such as the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.
8. Organize Garden Tools
You will probably be spending a lot more time outdoors, so spring is an excellent time to organize the things you’ll need for outdoor work.
Gardening tools and pool care equipment need to all have an assigned place outside your house – somewhere that it is safe from weather and not in sight so it is not a constant eyesore to anyone. Spending the time to organize in the spring will allow you to appreciate the outside of your house so much more throughout the time of year when you spend the most time outdoors.
9. Lawn Care & Landscaping
Your lawn, trees and bushes make a major impact on the overall look of your house.
Kill weeds around your flower beds and walkways, till up places where you might be planting later on and sweep off walkways. You can spray pre-emergent weed poison to make lawn care easier on yourself throughout the summer. Trim all bushes too.
10. Clean the Grill
After sitting unused for several months, your gas or charcoal grill could use a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food particles from your grill are definitely unappetizing, but even worse they can make you and your family sick.
Wet it down to get rid of leftover ash, then scrub the grates with a plastic scrubber or grill brush (so you do not leave behind particles that can get into food) and a basic detergent or degreaser.
You could probably finish these projects over the course of a few weekends but it is going to be a lot of hard work. Instead, give us a call! Vista Pressure Washing provides professional home exterior cleaning services for driveway cleaning, patio cleaning, pressure washing, roof cleaning and more!
